The 2001 Voche Vino de Autor is a fabulous wine from the Manzanos stable. Situated on the borders of Rioja and Navarra the Manzanos group produce characterful wines with a true sense of place. 2001 was hailed as one of the best vintages ever in Rioja and we are delighted to have snapped up a parcel of this mature Rioja. Half of the wine spends over 5 years in a mixture of second and third fill French and American oak, adding toasty complexity to the concentrated dried fruit and forest floor flavours. The palate is full and generous with nuanced vanilla leading to a well structured yet silky finish.
Superb value and drinking beautifully now.
Making this wine so special. The prestigious international Mundus Vini 2022 judging awarded it ”Best of Show” with a Grand Gold medal on top. Basically, it’s a perfect showing. Vintage Rioja recognized as one of the best on earth.
And what’s in the glass? Pretty much exactly that. Dried figs and red currants, worn leather and cloves, figs and vanilla with a sturdy oak backbone. If collectibles like López de Heredia or Marqués de Murrieta (aka “the Rioja aristocracy” per Jancis Robinson) mean anything to you, this is your next new discovery. Heck, if you dig ANY mature red wine, you OWE yourself a case. No regrets, guaranteed.
