The 2017 Daou Vineyard Patrimony "Black Label" Cabernet Sauvignon Magnum (1.5L) marks the historic, inaugural release of the Daou brothers' ultra-luxury Paso Robles estate program. Sourced from the highest elevations of DAOU Mountain in the Adelaida District, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from a special selection of only two barrels chosen by winemaker Daniel Daou for their unmatched depth and structural power.
Released in highly limited quantities in an original wooden case (OWC), the 1.5L magnum format carries a standard release price of $1,000, though secondary auction and collector market prices fluctuate higher.
Jeb Dunnuck (99 Points): Hailed the vintage as a blockbuster, calling it "a wine that might just be the greatest pure Cabernet Sauvignon to come from Paso Robles, ever." He noted its deep purple color, crushed violets, graphite, and seamless, massive structure.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (97 Points): Noted that the wine unfolds at a leisurely pace, revealing complex layers of rich blackberry pie, roasted coffee, char grill, and a distinct streak of shimmery graphite.
James Suckling (95 Points): Praised its bold and structured frame, highlighting deep core fruit flavors of blackberry, chocolate, hazelnut, and an ultra-creamy textured finish.
Aromas: Exuberant and pure, bursting with black cherry, lilac, hibiscus, unsmoked tobacco leaf, and luxurious dark chocolate.
Palate: Full-bodied, concentrated, and immensely elegant. It features a stacked mid-palate of ripe blueberry and espresso, balanced by bright acidity and polished but powerful velvety tannins.
Aging Potential: Because it was aged for 30 months in 100% new French oak and bottled in a large format, this magnum is built for immense longevity. While enjoyable now with several hours of decanting, it will easily reward cellaring through 2035–2045+.
